Neck Pain Treatment From Our Chiropractor

Causes and Treatments of Neck Pain

The neck is a surprisingly vulnerable body part, so it's no surprise that it is occasionally injured. Most of the time, the resulting neck pain will go away after a few weeks, though you may seek treatment to reduce the pain level or make healing go faster. Sometimes, though, the cause of the discomfort will definitely require treatment to resolve.

Causes of Neck Pain

Pains in your neck often result from strains, sprains, or from putting too much stress on your neck. An example of an injury resulting from too much physical stress is text neck. This is a pain in the neck and shoulders caused by looking down for prolonged periods.

Strains and sprains can come from high-force impacts, such as those experienced in some car crashes, tackle sports, or falls from high places. These can be accompanied by forcibly misplaced vertebrae.

In some cases, pains in your neck result from wider bodily problems, such as infections that spread from your throat, fibromyalgia, arthritis, lymph node problems, and degenerative disc disease.

Symptoms That May Accompany Neck Problems

Pain is the most obvious symptom, but it may not be the only one. Stiffness is a common accompaniment, and this can be debilitating when you're doing an activity that requires you to be able to turn your head. Some other symptoms are of more concern. If you feel tingling, numbness, prickling, or other strange sensations in your neck or arms, it is a sign of nerve involvement. You should get treatment to relieve pinched nerves quickly.

How a Chiropractor Can Help

If you come to our chiropractor, he will examine your neck for misalignments of the vertebrae. These problems are common in impact-related neck injuries. Then, a treatment plan will be devised that addresses the misalignments as well as soft-tissue injuries like strains and sprains.

If it turns out that something else is wrong with your neck, the treatment plan will reflect that. Spinal decompression and other treatments may be recommended.
